About the Artist
My name is L and I am a non-binary artist from the Netherlands.
From 2022 until 2025 I studied a lot at the Fine Art Academy, and learned from some awesome modern day artists. There I learned about techniques, color, tone, composition and more and I fell in love with realist art. But something was missing. I loved the process of painting but had a hard time finding subjects and compostitions I was actually (longterm lol) interested in. At the end of 2025 it finally clicked for me. I loved the proces of painting realism, but the subjects that interest me are towards fantasy, witchcraft and subjects that have bohemian vibes to them. And I also realised that selling big paintings wasn't the way for me.
I want to make art for people like me. People who love art and fantasy but don't have hundreds or thousands to spend it on. I want to make the art I want to make AND make it affordable for everyone.
About the Art
On this website I sell art prints of my own art works. I mainly work with oilpaints on primed paper, but I love to dab in other art mediums as well. All art I made with my own human hands and ideas were created from the dephts of my own weird mind.
As for what inspires me... I like to paint mystical compositions. Some related to death, to magic or to myths and some having a bohemian vibe to them.
About the Name
Howlite is a white opaque gemstone with usually grey web veins that kind of looks like marble. It's magical properties are said to be helping with awareness, dealing with negative energies and also boosting creativity. I love serpents both as an animal and as a symbol of change.
Both the howlite and serpent have a special and personal meaning to me, so that's why I chose it to be the name of the website. Plus I think it sounds really cool hehe:).
